Windstar doesn’t just make claims, it fulfills them. We chose Windstar because it follows through on its “180 degrees from ordinary” motto. Every day is unique no matter where you sail you’ll find yourself immersed in exotic, local culture with every voyage an experience unlike any other. There are no crowds. No standing in long lines. Instead, Windstar’s intimate approach in private yacht style will bring you closer to every destination visited, including hidden ports in some of the world’s most remote places, away from the noise and frustrations that come with those massive cruise lines. You won’t be just a number. Unlike those vessels with thousands of tourists and zero personal service, there are just 148 to 342 guests on every ship, designed to be enjoyed by like-minded travelers who can explore the globe while enjoying laid-back luxuries.
Meals on Windstar are what you’d expect to be served on your own private yacht. You can dine wherever you like with a variety of casual venues, no reservations required, whenever and with whomever you’d like with flexible meal times. The food is a highlight with dishes focused on the local flavor of the culture. In fact, the fresh, locally sourced ingredients and seasonal produce are often hand-picked by the chef at markets in the destinations visited for an authentic foodie experience. One of the highlights is an evening BBQ featuring incredible local cuisine enjoyed with entertainment under the stars. Plus, as Windstar has partnered with the James Beard Foundation, special culinary-themed voyages are available with menus curated by top chefs.

The accommodation types vary depending on the ship you choose. For example, Star Breeze, Star Legend, and Star Pride are all-suite vessels known as “All-suite Star Plus Class.” They include a minimum of 277 square feet of space. The Wind Class sail ships like Wind Star, Wind Spirit, and Wind Surf, are smaller, some with portholes rather than windows or balconies, but all are well-appointed with everything you need for a comfortable cruise. Think beds with fine Egyptian linens and lavish marble bathrooms with showers, upscale toiletries, and hairdryers. Other standard features in every Windstar cabin include waffle weave robes and slippers, TVs with movies, safes, fully stocked minibars, and Wi-Fi.

Your well-being is a top priority on Windstar cruises, with a variety of spa and wellness offerings onboard. That includes a whirlpool for relaxing soaks, a swimming pool, and a watersports platform in warmer climes where you can leap into enticing waters to enjoy a dip or take advantage of complimentary gear like standup paddleboards and kayaks. Every Windstar ship has a spa, referred to as World Spa, although facilities may differ between smaller and larger yachts. All have a sauna and treatment rooms for all sorts of pampering. Indulge in massages, facial and body offerings, beauty services like waxing, teeth whitening, hair styling, manis and pedis, and even Chinese medicine. High-tech workout equipment and fitness classes are available too.

There’s no flashy entertainment like large, Broadway-style productions but you will find enrichment opportunities with cultural activities, lectures, and local performances like acoustic music or cultural dancers performed by local artists. You might enjoy an engaging lecture with an expert about the local history or watch a cooking demonstration powered by the James Beard Foundation. Nightly destination talks are provided and there are trivia contests, game nights, special barbecues, and cocktail hours that provide a great way to socialize and get to know your fellow (often like-minded) passengers. Of course, nearly everyone enjoys spending time in the ship’s pool or whirlpool, they’re two of the most popular places to be while onboard.

Windstar Cruises offers full internet capabilities, depending on course and position of the ship, as well as wireless internet service on all ships. Wi-Fi access is possible in most public areas, staterooms, and suites.
As with all ship communications, the internet service is operated through satellites. While you are most likely used to a fast internet connection at home, in hotels or other local Wi-Fi spots, internet at sea can be slow, and at times, disruptive. The only option available is satellite connection, which is costly and limits the amount of data used. It is not recommended for downloading movies or large files due to system speed. In some areas the service can be interrupted by weather or the ship’s position. Windstar Cruises recommend that guests use the service only for emails or small files.
Guests can purchase Internet Usage Plans prior to their cruise through a Vacation Planner or on board at Reception, however these can be very costly so it is suggested that guests upgrade to The All-In package, that includes WIFI in addition to drinks and gratuities.
While Windstar seeks to accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities, there are no elevators on Wind Star and Wind Spirit, nor were the ships originally constructed to be wheelchair accessible. As a result, these ships may be unsuitable for people relying solely on wheelchairs. The other yachts are equipped with elevators, but staterooms on Wind Surf are not wheelchair accessible. Also note, there is no elevator access to board the ship. Star Pride, Star Breeze, and Star Legend have modified wheelchair accessible suites available.
Certain ports require the ship to anchor; in this case guests must be ferried into port by tender, and may not be possible to access for those with walking difficulties.
There are no assigned seating in Amphora or Verandah restaurants on board the ships. Reservations are usually required when dining in Candles and can be made on board once you have embarked the ship.
Laundry service is provided on board at a nominal charge. Dry cleaning is not available. Laundry Service Packages must be added by the first day of the cruise and will be priced by the total number of cruise days. Pricing is inclusive of applicable taxes.
Windstar operate a large crew to ensure that every aspect of your cruise meets the highest standards. This includes those crew members serving you directly, such as wait staff, and the stewards who service your stateroom or suite each day. There are also many others who support their efforts whom you may never meet, such as galley and laundry staff.
To ensure that the efforts of all of their crew members are recognized and rewarded, a Hotel Service Charge of $16 per passenger per day is automatically added to each guest’s onboard account. If their service exceeds or fails to meet your expectations, you are free to adjust this amount at the end of the cruise. In addition, a 18% Beverage Service Charge is automatically added to bar charges and dining room wine purchases. These charges represent an important part of Windstar crew members compensation. Note that if you are upgrading to The All-In Package on Windstar, this will include all gratuities on board, including the 18% beverage service charge.
