Why we chose Star Clippers
Simon
Cruise Specialist
We chose Star Clippers as it feels like sailing on a private yacht. The traditional clipper ships offer lots of luxurious comforts as high-tech, modern, re-creations of the classic sailing vessels that were popular during the 19th century. It’s all about fun in the sun while enjoying an authentic tall ship experience that includes more amenities than your typical windjammer-type experience. The adventurous can enjoy clambering up to the crow’s nest (safely secured in a harness). In the evening theme nights always make for a great time with guests donning eye patches for Pirate Night or getting up on stage to show off their singing skills during the talent show. We also appreciate the outstanding crew-to-passenger ratio. With the more limited number of passengers, you’re not just a number on these ships. You can gain more insight into the places visited and get personal recommendations, including the best eats in port.
Life on board a Star Clippers ship
Fine Cuisine
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the dining room although light bites like fresh fruit, pastries, finger sandwiches, chicken wings, and hors d’ oeuvres can be enjoyed at the outdoor Tropical Bar. Breakfast is buffet-style with a mix of hot and cold items like yogurt, fruit, and cheeses, sausages, bacon, hash browns, and French toast, plus an omelet and egg station. At lunch, there are occasional themed meals such as Asian or Italian plus a beach BBQ. Generally, it’s also served buffet-style, usually with a carving station featuring roast beef or salmon, along with a salad bar and dessert. Dinner is ordered from a nightly changing a la carte menu. All meals are casual with no formal gowns or suits required.
Luxury Accommodation
The Star Clippers’ ships offer both inside and outside cabins. All come with private bathrooms that include showers and are available in multiple categories with twin, double, and triple bed options. The inside cabins average 86 square feet while the outside cabins offer 118 square feet of living space. There are several suite options on the Royal Clipper for those looking for an ultra-luxurious experience, including the Deluxe Suite 255-square-foot veranda cabins that have whirlpool tubs, minibars, and seating areas. The Owner’s Suite has the most space with 320 square feet. All have nautical décor and stand amenities that include flat-screen TVs with DVD players (DVDs are available to borrow), and air-conditioning. Hairdryers and toiletries like soap, shampoo, and conditioner are also provided.
Total Relaxation
The cabins and suites aboard Star Clippers’ vessel provide a cozy space for relaxation but you’ll find other places for relaxed bliss. That includes too saltwater pools for lounging around day or night. Windows are set into both which let natural light in while providing views of the aquamarine water. There are plenty of loungers for soaking up the sun and it’s also possible to relax on the ship’s spar netting that’s suspended over the water. While there are no spas on any of the ships, there is a space for the onboard massage therapist to soothe those sore muscles or just bring you to total bliss. Both sports and traditional massages are available and the therapist also offers mani-pedis
Entertainment
Star Clippers shines when it comes to entertaining activities with everything from exciting shore excursions to fun on the beach and in the water. There are complimentary kayaks, paddleboards, wakeboards, and snorkeling gear with scheduled snorkeling safaris available in some of the best underwater locations. PADI- certified diving instructions and gear are available with intro-to-scuba courses offered for an additional fee. Experienced divers can take advantage of the outstanding dive sites (also for an extra charge). For a unique hands- on experience, you might try the knot-tying or navigation classes. The lounges are popular places to be in the evening for mingling with various events occasionally hosted too. Deck parties, theme nights, onboard games, and nightly music, round out Star Clippers entertainment.

What is the dress code on board?
Life on board a Star Clippers cruise is very relaxed, with an informal atmosphere. As such, the dress code is also very relaxed, with shorts and t-shirts being acceptable for breakfast and lunch. However, in the evening it is suggested that gentlemen should wear long trousers, shirts and with colars and sleeves or polo shirts. Jackets are optional. Women can wear sun dresses, skirts or slacks. There are no formal nights.
Is internet available on board?
As of summer 2024, Star Clippers have launched Starlink based WiFi on board all three of their ships. Internet can be purchased on board but as with all internet at sea, can be quite expensive. Service may be briefly interrupted in remote areas, while sailing and the speed will likely be slower than what you are used to back home.
Is there an elevator on board?
Unfortunately, there are no elevators on board any of the Star Clippers ships. Access to the ship will often be via tenders and gangplanks meaning that it may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties.
Can you reserve a table at the restaurant?
There are no pre-set seating for dining and there are a range of table sizes to provide all guests with flexibility of who they share their meals with. All guests can sit when and where they like, even with the ship’s officers, who will often be found in the main dining room with passengers.
Is there a laundry service on board?
Star Clipper offers a laundry service on all three ships. A dry cleaning service is only offered on the Royal Clipper.
What is the tipping policy on board?
Gratuities on the ship are not included in the cruise fare and are at your discretion. We suggest €8 per day and per person. Gratuities are divided among the waiters in the dining room and the stewards. You can pay these gratuities at the end of the cruise by credit card, indicating the amount you wish to give (a form will be placed in your cabin) or in cash placed in an envelope, deposited in the box near the Purser’s Office.
Tipping while on land based excursions are left to your discretion.
