We love the high crew-to-passenger ratio on AmaWaterways. Ultimately that means a more attentive, personalized service. You won’t be just a number and the small size of the vessels means they can dock at smaller, more out of the way ports. That allows for venturing off the beaten path and a more authentic experience, especially when combined with the impressive shore excursions. As guests have different tastes, the menu of different shore excursions gives you a variety of choices in every port of call. In most destinations, you can choose from several different guided tours that are included in the fare. While facilities can vary a bit, you can expect heated pools on all but four ships (AmaCello, AmaDante, AmaDolce, and AmaLyra, which have hot tubs). It’s easy to support wellness too, with everything from exercise facilities and walking tracks to massage services. Stay connected with free Wi-Fi access provided throughout the ships.
Dining on board an AmaWaterways ship has been recognized by the prestigious Chaine des Rotisseurs so you know it’s going to be good. Gastronomic experiences are enjoyed from morning to night. The sumptuous breakfast and lunch buffets offer a wide range of both hot and cold dishes. Lunch and dinner include complimentary local wines, beer, and soft drinks, and there’s a 24-hour tea and coffee station available for free. Some of the finest food is enjoyed at the Chef’s Table, an intimate eatery with a special regionally-inspired tasting menu. The main dining restaurants feature regional cuisine based on destinations visited, like bratwurst in Vienna, black truffle soup in Lyon, and schnitzel in Bavaria.
AmaWaterways Cruises is renowned for its spacious staterooms, many of which are the signature Twin Balcony staterooms. Not only does that mean natural light floods in but they bring multiple ways to enjoy the views outside of your accommodation, with both a smaller French balcony and a furnished outdoor balcony. That means no matter where you are, you’re probably going to have a view of the castles, steeples, and other landmarks lining the riverbanks. Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available in all staterooms and throughout the vessel. Other notable features include entertainment systems with flat-screen TVs that have English-language channels, movies, and music libraries. Plus, the beds are ultra-comfy, featuring high-end linens to help ensure a peaceful night’s sleep.
As noted, AmaWaterways has a focus on wellness with multiple ways to fill the need for relaxation. You could always stand on deck, soaking up the sun and the surrounding scenery as stress melts away, but pampering massages are offered too. Or, lounge around the pool with the “Detox Water of the Day” infused with various citrus and gemstones aimed to eliminate toxins. If a cocktail is what you had in mind, grab a refreshing drink from the swim-up bar, found on many AmaWaterways ships. After a day of touring, there’s nothing like a soak in the whirlpool (on select river ships) to soothe joints and muscles. You can also relax while a talented hair stylist gives you a new look.
Much of the entertainment on an AmaWaterways cruise is focused on the destinations themselves, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any onboard. A nightly schedule is offered, perhaps a local artist playing a collection of European folk music, a pianist playing modern favorites on the baby grand piano, or an in-depth immersion into the local folklore. You might relax to the sounds of a string quartet or catch a series of skits based on local legends. While there may not be huge Broadway-style productions you’re unlikely to be bored on an AmaWaterways cruise. If you want to enjoy the comfort of your stateroom, you can do that too. You’ll have an Entertainment-On-Demand system with access to unlimited movies, TV shows, and music.
AmaMagna is an award-winning, extra-spacious ship, at twice the size of a traditional European river cruising vessel.
