Sonnen GmbH, a leader in renewable energy solutions, launched the sonnenCharger wallbox in the Swedish market. Designed to cater to the growing demand for sustainable electric vehicle charging, the sonnenCharger provides customers with an impressive output power of 11 kW to 22 kW. The sonnenCharger features Power Mode and Eco Mode. In the former, users can harness the maximum power capacity of the Wallbox, drawing energy from electric grids to charge their vehicle. The latter utilizes self-generated solar energy, a household’s photovoltaic cells, to charge the vehicle. While the energy generated through solar panels might be lower than the maximum power output, it presents a sustainable alternative for EV owners seeking greener charging solutions. For households equipped with photovoltaic systems, the sonnenCharger becomes an indispensable addition. Its charging capabilities seamlessly integrate with home solar energy systems.
The global transition toward household electrification has gained significant traction, with a growing number of individuals generating power from their rooftop solar installations. Recognizing this trend, sonnen has observed in their primary market, Germany, that customers prefer their own photovoltaic energy for charging their cars while maintaining the convenience and speed offered by standard wallboxes. Wenzel Brühl, Vice President of Growth and Marketing at sonnen, acknowledges that reliable charging solutions are the need of the hour: "We understand the significance of using self-generated PV energy for our customers and strive to provide them with efficient and reliable charging solutions”.
According to Mobility Sweden, as of 2021, there were 110,177 operational electric vehicles in the country, provoking a need for smart charging that was realized and acted upon by the sonnenCharger. By way of tapping into self-generated solar energy, the charger reduces or eliminates the need for grid power. Moreover, Eco Mode's use of self-generated energy enables electric vehicle owners to cut costs, become energy independent, reduce their carbon footprint, and enhance energy efficiency. Complemented by the government's tax reduction policies introduced in 2021, the sonnenCharger is incentivized to couple with Swedish EVs. Sonnen takes a holistic approach to electric vehicle charging, thus paving the way for a more sustainable future.
