Twitter has announced a new feature that lets users choose almost any emoji to react to a direct message in a conversation. Previously, you could only react to the most recent message using a select set of emojis.
As Elon Musk announced on Twitter, the emoji reaction feature is coming soon. Twitter now competes with other messaging apps that already have this capability, such as WhatsApp and Telegram. Additionally, Musk said that Twitter will release the first version of encrypted DMs on Wednesday. However, he did not say if users can check for an indicator to understand if their chats are protected by end-to-end encryption.
DMs have been encrypted end-to-end for a while. Musk posted last November that he wanted DMs to "superset Signal." He hasn't been the best at tracking timelines. It was tweeted in March that the company would roll out encrypted direct messages by the end of the month, but here we are in May.
It would seem unlikely that end-to-end encryption protection for DMs will be ready on Wednesday 10 May. He also stated that soon Twitter will have the capability to do voice calls. This is part of the plan to make Twitter the "everything app."
