As Elon Musk shakes up Twitter's top team, former NBCUniversal executive Joe Benarroch has been hired as business operations director. Mr Benarroch starts today. Mr Benarroch updated his LinkedIn profile to reflect the appointment and appeared to state he will be based at the New York office, stating "I am looking forward to bringing my experience to Twitter, and to working with the entire team to build Twitter 2.0 together."
In his last role he served as executive vice president for communications, advertising, and partnerships at NBCUniversal. Earlier in his career, he worked for social media giant Facebook. Last week, Twitter's second head of trust and safety resigned under Elon Musk. During the month after Mr Musk took over the company in November 2022, Ella Irwin was appointed to replace Yoel Roth. Since Mr Musk took control of the firm, content moderation has been a hot topic, and the head of trust and safety is responsible for it.
In light of Mr Musk's public criticism of Twitter's content moderation decision, there is no clear explanation for Ms Irwin's resignation. Having bought Twitter for $44bn (£35.4bn) in 2011, Elon Musk was under pressure to find someone else to lead the firm and refocus his attention on Tesla and SpaceX.
Ms Yaccarino was recently named Twitter's new CEO by Mr Musk. She will take over management of the struggling platform in six weeks, according to the world's richest man. He said he would remain as chief technology officer and executive chairman of the platform.
